The Classical Violin Program at Serena Eades Academy focuses on developing a strong technical foundation while exploring classical music's rich repertoire. Students work through RCM levels, Suzuki volumes, and études and scales to build technical mastery. Ideal for students aiming to develop or refine their classical technique and repertoire, while deepening their musical expression, this program supports growth at every level.

Introductory Level

Ideal for Children (age 4-8)

Duration - 30 Mins/Weekly
For students in the early stages of their musical journey, Serena Eades Academy of Music offers a well-rounded beginner program. This curriculum is designed to build foundational skills in violin performance and music theory. Key materials and techniques include:

  • RCM Preparatory to Level 2 Repertoire: Introduces students to the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) curriculum at the preparatory level through to Level 2.

  • Suzuki Volume 1: A core component of the Suzuki Method, fostering early musical development.

  • Scales: Focus on G Major, D Major, and A Major (1 octave), along with their corresponding arpeggios, with additional scales introduced as appropriate for the student's level.

Repertoire and Learning Resources SEAOM Preparatory Material: Includes Suzuki Preparatory Material and other specially sourced materials, using color coding to support young children who are still learning their alphabet and beginning to read. I Can Read Music: Designed to develop sight-reading skills in beginner students. Violinkids Lesson Volume 1: A fundamental guide for beginner violinists. Violinkids Activity Book Volume 1: Introduces students to basic music theory through engaging activities. RCM Repertoire: Includes selected pieces from the RCM curriculum at the preparatory level. RCM Scales & Technique Book: A foundational resource to develop early technical skills. Suzuki Volume 1: Reinforces key learning through the Suzuki Method’s beginner-level repertoire. This program provides a strong foundation in both practical violin skills and music theory, allowing students to progress at a comfortable pace while building confidence in their abilities.

Intermediate Level

Duration - 45 Mins/Weekly
For students advancing to the intermediate stages, the program at Serena Eades Academy of Music offers an in-depth curriculum focused on further developing technique and musical understanding. Key materials and areas of focus include:

  • RCM Levels 3-4 Repertoire: Core pieces from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) curriculum.

  • Suzuki Volumes 2-4: Progressive repertoire from the Suzuki Method to further enhance technique and musicianship.

  • Scales & Etudes: A focus on scales and etudes to improve technical skills and finger agility.

  • Music Theory: Building a deeper understanding of the Circle of Fifths, key signatures, intervals, more complex rhythm reading, and barline/imaginary bar placement.

Repertoire and Learning Resources RCM Repertoire: Carefully selected pieces from the RCM syllabus. RCM Scales & Technique Book: Advanced scales and techniques for further skill development. Violin Etudes: Including works by Schradiek, Wohlfahrt, Kreutzer, Geringas, and others, aimed at strengthening technical proficiency. I Can Read Music Volume 2: Continuing development in sight-reading skills. Additional Repertoire: Tailored selections as determined by the teacher and student to suit individual progress and interests. Advanced Level

  • RCM Levels 5-8 Repertoire: Advanced pieces from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) curriculum.

  • Suzuki Volumes 5-8: A continuation of the Suzuki Method’s progressive repertoire, designed to further develop technical proficiency and musical interpretation.

  • Scales & Etudes: A rigorous focus on advanced scales and etudes to enhance technique and agility.

Repertoire and Learning Resources RCM Repertoire: Carefully selected pieces from the RCM syllabus to match the student’s level and musical growth. RCM Scales & Technique Book: Advanced scales, arpeggios, and technique exercises to support continued technical development. Violin Etudes: A focus on studies by Schradiek, Wohlfahrt, Kreutzer, Fiorillo, Dont, Sevcik, and other renowned composers to build technical mastery and precision. Additional Repertoire: Custom-selected pieces as determined by the teacher and student, allowing for flexibility based on individual interests and strengths.   • RCM Level 9+ Repertoire: Focuses on the most advanced pieces from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) curriculum.

  • Suzuki Volumes 9-10: The final stages of the Suzuki Method, intended to perfect technique and musicality at the highest level.

Repertoire and Learning Resources Repertoire: Determined based on audition packages, exam material, or specific goals of the student. This personalized approach ensures that each student is fully prepared for professional-level performances or examinations.
